Ministry of Social Affairs to dissolve cooperative board amid financial violations
An inquiry committee will soon be formed to review the work and accounts of a major cooperative in Jahra following reports of financial irregularities and shareholder complaints.
• The main violations include a financial deficit, mismanagement, and inflated stagnant goods due to poor purchasing policies, leading to increased expenses, decreased sales, and a weakened financial position, alongside other serious financial and administrative abuses.
The Ministry of Social Affairs is set to dissolve the board of directors of a cooperative association in the capital governorate. This follows findings from an investigative committee that uncovered suspicions of financial violations and serious administrative abuses. A ministerial decision to dissolve the board is expected this week, the Al Jarida newspaper reported.
According to sources, the most prominent violations include a financial deficit within the cooperative, inflation of stagnant goods due to the failure to follow sound purchasing policies, and mismanagement. This has led to increased expenses and purchases, while sales and revenues have decreased, weakening the financial position and liquidity of the association. In addition, there are several other serious financial and administrative violations and abuses.
The sources also confirmed that legal actions will be taken against the boards of directors of violating cooperatives in the coming period, suspected of serious financial and administrative violations.
They emphasized that Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, the Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, has not and will not hesitate to take legal measures to protect the cooperative system, safeguard shareholders’ rights and funds, and maintain the status of the associations.
Additionally, sources revealed the imminent issuance of a decision to form an inquiry committee to review the work and accounts of a “cooperative” association, one of the largest operating within the Jahra governorate. This follows periodic reports submitted by financial supervisors and administrators, along with a series of complaints received by the cooperation sector from shareholders, alleging irregularities within the cooperative’s board of directors.
