Ministry of Interior issues warning against fake website scam
The Ministry of Interior has issued a warning to the public about a fraudulent website pretending to be the Ministry itself, to deceive individuals and steal money.
In an official statement, the Ministry clarified that the deceptive website employs tactics where its administrators send messages to specific individuals, falsely asserting a need for a payment of 450 dinars to gain access to banned websites, reports Al-Anba daily.
The main goal of this fraudulent operation is to exploit those who become victims by siphoning funds from their bank accounts. Individuals receiving messages from the alleged fake page are misled into thinking that they must fine pay via credit card to unlock access to restricted websites.
The scam includes threats of arrest and court referral if the specified fines, set at 450 dinars, are not promptly paid. The fabricated message further declares that failure to comply with the payment will result in a two-year imprisonment sentence and a fine exceeding 1,180 dinars.
The Ministry of Interior advises against responding to such scams and encourages heightened awareness among the public to prevent falling prey to fraudulent activities.
