Ministry of Health reaffirms commitment to women’s rights
UN Special Rapporteur Reem Alsalem visited Kuwait’s new maternity hospital to promote international cooperation and share expertise on humanitarian and health initiatives.

• The Ministry of Health described the visit of UN Special Rapporteur as a key step in enhancing international cooperation and highlighting Kuwait’s experience in safeguarding the rights of women and children.
The UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Reem Alsalem, paid an official visit to Kuwait’s new maternity hospital as part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation and share expertise on humanitarian and health issues, Al Jarida newspaper reported.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health said Assistant Undersecretary for External Health Services, Dr. Hisham Kalender, received Alsalem and briefed her on the ministry’s national initiatives and specialized health programs aimed at protecting women and supporting victims of violence. The visit, it added, underscores Kuwait’s commitment to advancing women’s rights and showcasing achievements in this field.
The ministry described the visit as an important step in enhancing international cooperation and highlighting Kuwait’s experience in safeguarding the rights of women and children. It reaffirmed its commitment to further developing services in line with international standards and the country’s humanitarian obligations.
During the visit, Alsalem reviewed key services in healthcare, prevention, and support, and toured the Ministry’s Child Protection Office, where the office’s role in strengthening social and health protection for women and children was highlighted.
