Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy reaffirms grid stability amid heatwave

Eng Fatima Hayat said, as Kuwait battles soaring summer temperatures, the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has taken extensive measures to ensure the stability of the national electricity grid and prevent power outages during peak usage months.
Speaking on the sidelines of the fifth annual exhibition, “We Will Not Forget the Brutal Invasion and Our Righteous Martyrs,” held yesterday under the patronage of Minister Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, marking the 35th anniversary of Iraq’s 1990 invasion of Kuwait Eng. Hayat, confirmed that a series of operational and public awareness initiatives had been implemented in cooperation with both government and private entities since the start of the summer, reports Al-Jarida daily.
Hayat addressed public concerns following the ministry’s load alert message sent via the Sahel app after the power load reached 17,545 megawatts, nearing the critical orange zone. She attributed this surge to the extreme heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 48°C over the past two weeks, and urged the public to conserve electricity, particularly during peak hours between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
She emphasized that the ministry had implemented an early response plan in coordination with multiple government bodies. These proactive efforts, including real-time load management and public outreach campaigns, helped maintain grid stability and prevent a recurrence of last year’s summer peak loads.
He affirmed that the exhibition would continue to be held annually, serving as both a tribute to Kuwait’s resilience and a reminder of the cost of freedom.
