Minister Khalifa Al-Ajil cancels over 1,100 mobile food truck licenses

. . . announces five new sites from January; reshapes mobile food truck, imposes stricter oversight

Minister of Commerce and Industry Khalifa Al-Ajil, Thursday, January 1, 2026 afternoon, inspected the newly designated sites and spaces allocated for mobile food trucks accompanied by Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Abdul Latif Al-Mishari, and Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Mohammed Al-Mashaan.

In a press statement following the tour, Al-Ajil said the Ministry of Commerce and Industry continues its regulatory efforts to develop the mobile food truck sector in a manner that ensures a fair and sustainable business environment, enhances service quality, and improves the efficiency of utilizing designated sites for this activity, reports Al-Rai daily.

He explained the ministry’s measures are driven by a core objective: supporting entrepreneurs, business owners, and serious project operators who comply with laws and regulatory requirements.

He stressed that protecting compliant operators is a firm and non-negotiable priority, noting that the ministry will not tolerate any practices that create unfair competition or exploit licenses at the expense of those who adhere to the law.

As part of its ongoing review of commercial records, the minister revealed that more than 1,100 mobile food truck licenses were cancelled after being found inactive, unrenewed, or non-compliant with regulatory conditions.

He said the step forms part of an integrated plan to streamline records, redirect opportunities to deserving operators, and reinforce discipline within this vital sector.

Al-Ajil underlined that while the ministry supports serious projects, it also applies strict oversight to curb violations and prevent manipulation or misuse of licenses.

He warned that any attempt to circumvent regulations or harm compliant businesses would be met with firm action and clear legal procedures, without leniency.

He further announced the allocation of five new locations for mobile food trucks starting January 2026, distributed across several areas of the country.

The move aims to accommodate actual operating needs, ensure fair geographic distribution, and facilitate effective monitoring and regulation in line with approved planning standards.

Concluding his remarks, the minister affirmed that the ministry will continue to enhance regulatory and supervisory frameworks to serve the public interest, strengthen confidence in the business environment, and sustain the mobile food truck sector as a viable avenue for entrepreneurship under clear rules that protect rights and prevent violations.
