Micro mobility key to reducing congestion and building smarter GCC cities: Al-Farsi

Municipal Council member Engineer Alia Al-Farsi said with proper regulatory frameworks, enhanced safety standards, and integration with public transportation systems, micro mobility can play a vital role in reducing traffic congestion and improving connectivity between first and last destinations in GCC cities.

Speaking at the Future Roads Global Forum — the leading annual platform held as part of the Saudi Multimodal Mobility Exhibition in Riyadh — Al-Farsi took part in a panel discussion titled “Cooperative Frameworks for Seamless Integration and Action Plan for Mobility Transformation in GCC Countries.”

She noted that she joined a distinguished group of regional leaders to explore the most effective steps that Gulf cities should adopt over the next three to five years to ease congestion, strengthen road safety, and support rapid urban growth through sustainable, future-ready mobility solutions, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Farsi highlighted the growing role of micro mobility options—such as scooters, bicycles, and e-bikes—as essential elements of modern urban transport.

The panel also examined how cooperation, interoperable systems, and strong governance can accelerate mobility transformation across the region.

Al-Farsi stressed the importance of a shared regional commitment to building a smarter, more connected, human-centered transport ecosystem that enhances quality of life for all residents.
