MEW urges public to conserve power amid rising temperatures

If demand continues to rise, may be forced to implement scheduled power cuts — but only as a last resort

The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has called on citizens and residents to cooperate in conserving electricity during the current period to help ensure the sustainability of essential services.

The ministry warned that if demand continues to rise, it may be forced to implement scheduled power outages — but only as a last resort.

Ministry spokesperson Engineer Fatima Jawhar Hayat stated in a press release on Saturday that the upcoming days are expected to bring higher temperatures, which will likely lead to increased electricity consumption, reports Al-Rai daily.

She affirmed the ministry’s dedication to keeping the public updated on any technical and operational measures, with ongoing monitoring of temperature patterns.

Eng Hayat clarified that scheduled power outages are part of the ministry’s operational measures, used only when absolutely necessary to maintain the stability and performance of the national power grid.

She stressed that these measures are not related to any recent damage or emergency, nor are they connected to current regional tensions. Rather, they are standard procedures that have been implemented in previous years during periods of peak demand.

She also emphasized the ministry’s commitment to transparency, urging the public to rely on official sources for accurate updates and to refrain from spreading rumors or misinformation about the country’s power situation.
