MEW prepares to float AI tender to drive digital transformation

The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy is preparing to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its operations as part of its broader push toward digital transformation.

According to informed sources, the ministry’s Planning, Training and Information Systems Sector has finalized a tender for the use of AI in ministry applications, reports Al-Rai daily.

The tender has been included in the annual plan contracts for the current fiscal year and will be offered through the Central Agency for Public Tenders, which will announce bid dates and forward qualified offers to the ministry for evaluation and award recommendations.

Sources explained that the AI initiative will help the ministry meet its development plan objectives, which focus on creating a cohesive, transparent, and agile government.

The project aims to improve integrity, boost efficiency, and enhance responsiveness to citizens’ needs—particularly important for a service-based ministry.

The national development plan includes 18 projects aimed at fostering government transparency and efficiency.

The ministry is involved in two of these — digital transformation and the smart meter system —both currently in the implementation phase.

Officials said significant progress has been made, with several contracts already in place to complete the final stages toward full digital transformation.
