MEW draws from strategic reserve as consumption outpaces production by 55 million gallons
Ministry attributes the gap to scheduled maintenance works being carried out at a number of water production facilities.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy announced that it is currently working to balance water consumption and production levels by drawing from the strategic water reserve to offset temporary shortages caused by ongoing maintenance operations at several water production plants.
According to the latest data published on the Ministry’s website, daily water consumption exceeded production by 55 million gallons. On Wednesday, total consumption reached 501 million gallons, while production stood at 446 million gallons.
Sources within the Ministry attributed the gap to scheduled maintenance works being carried out at a number of water production facilities.
Sources confirmed that the shortfall is being compensated from the strategic reserve, which currently holds 3.275 billion gallons of water.
The sources explained that the Power Plants and Water Distillation Sector has intensified maintenance efforts on both power generation units and water distillers in preparation for the upcoming summer season, when demand traditionally rises.
Coordination is ongoing between the Power Plants and Water Operation and Maintenance sectors to ensure uninterrupted water supply while maintenance activities continue.
The Ministry urged citizens and residents to use water responsibly and avoid waste, emphasizing that water production incurs substantial costs for the state, which shoulders the majority of these expenses.
On the electricity side, power loads have declined noticeably over the past few days due to milder weather conditions, with temperatures dropping below 40°C. As of yesterday, electricity consumption did not exceed 12,000 megawatts, reflecting lower seasonal demand.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring water and electricity stability through proactive maintenance, strategic planning, and public cooperation in resource conservation.
