Meteorology Department warns of strong dust-raising winds today

The Meteorology Department at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued a warning about strong winds expected to exceed 60 kilometers per hour in the early hours of Saturday, leading to reduced horizontal visibility in several areas, particularly open regions.
Dharar Al-Ali, Director of the Meteorology Department, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that weather maps show the country will be affected by a surface low-pressure system.
This system is expected to gradually recede, making way for a high-pressure front advancing from the northwest of the Arabian Peninsula. The incoming system will bring with it a hot, dry air mass and moderate to strong northwesterly winds that may exceed 60 kilometers per hour at times.
Al-Ali noted that these winds will raise sand and dust, reducing horizontal visibility to below 1,000 meters in some areas, especially in open terrain. Sea conditions will also be affected, with wave heights possibly reaching more than six feet.
He added that the northwesterly winds will persist throughout the day on Saturday, and while dust levels are expected to gradually decrease during the night, winds along the coast may remain moderate to active.
On Sunday, wind activity is expected to pick up again, potentially triggering dust and sand storms, particularly in the western parts of the country. Wind speeds should begin to decline by the evening.
Al-Ali urged the public to stay informed by checking the latest forecasts on the Meteorology Department’s official website, mobile app, and social media channels.
