MCI proposes sweeping fee hike across 67 services

Officials behind the proposal say the adjustments are based on actual service costs, a comparative Gulf study, and the fact that many fees have not been revised in decades — some have remained unchanged for as long as 53 years.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is proposing the introduction of around 67 new service fees and significant price hikes on existing charges — some reaching up to 17 times their current rates.

The move follows a Cabinet directive for government agencies to coordinate with the Ministry of Finance to review and update service prices.

According to the proposal, several services currently offered free of charge — such as company formation applications — would now cost 20 dinars, even for non-profit entities.

Other free services that the ministry offered, are now slated for fees include applications to amend the fiscal year of personal companies, write off mortgages and commercial agencies, and brokerage services for fish, fodder, livestock, vegetables, fruits, and birds.

Some of the most substantial increases include raising the fee for a temporary commercial license for real estate or jewelry exhibitions from 30 to 500 dinars, and a 25 percent hike in charges for procedures such as altering company capital, modifying shares, or changing trade names.

Fees for renewing company licenses, issuing board member certificates, and professional accounting licenses would also see notable rises, along with a doubling of the ration card issuance and renewal fee from 5 to 10 dinars.

Officials behind the proposal say the adjustments are based on actual service costs, a comparative Gulf study, and the fact that many fees have not been revised in decades — some have remained unchanged for as long as 53 years.
