MCI cracks down on price manipulation in Shuwaikh markets

The Commercial Control Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry carried out inspection tours of the wholesale and supermarkets in Shuwaikh, to monitor commodity availability, market stability, and prevent price manipulation.
This initiative is part of the ministry’s broader plan to ensure a steady supply of basic goods, including bottled water, canned food, and other essentials, while maintaining price integrity, reports Al-Rai daily.
Faisal Al-Ansari, Director of the Commercial Control Department, confirmed during the tour that prices of key food items remain stable and consistent with ministry regulations.
“We inspected the wholesale markets to verify the availability of basic commodities and ensure that pricing complies with regulations,” he said.
Al-Ansari issued a stern warning to retailers against artificial price hikes, stating that violators will face legal penalties, including the possibility of store closure.
Judicial officer Afnan Ashkanani added that inspection teams are deployed across all governorates, stationed near cooperative societies to ensure quick response.
She urged the public to report any price violations, noting that complaints can be submitted through the Sahel App, and inspectors will take prompt action.
