MCI cracks down on counterfeit goods, seizes 1,828 fake items in Salmiya

Illegal basement showroom busted in anti-counterfeit campaign; shops closed, medical supplies seized in nationwide commercial inspection drive

In continuation of its supervisory role and ongoing efforts to combat commercial fraud and counterfeit products, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry raided a basement used as an illegal showroom for the sale of counterfeit goods.

Authorities have seized large quantities of perfumes, accessories, bags and leather products bearing the trademarks of well-known international brands. The ministry’s emergency inspection team confiscated the items and initiated legal procedures against the violator.

In a related operation, the Commercial Control Department confiscated 1,828 counterfeit items from two shops in Salmiya. Both establishments were ordered closed immediately for violating commercial regulations.

Inspection campaigns also led to the closure of unlicensed vehicle repair garages and the seizure of significant quantities of expired and damaged medical supplies found in violation of health and safety standards.

The ministry affirmed that inspection efforts will continue across the country to ensure compliance with laws and regulations, protect consumer rights and preserve the integrity of the local market.
