MC committees to discuss waste management, housing regulations, walkway project next week

Three committees of the Municipal Council are scheduled to hold meetings next week to address various development and infrastructure issues.

On Sunday, the Environmental Affairs Committee, chaired by Engineer Alia Al-Farsi, will review a letter from the Ministry of Health concerning its oversight role at waste dump sites.

The discussion follows a series of joint meetings involving representatives from the Kuwait Municipality, Environment Public Authority, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Kuwait Environment Lens team, and the Ministry of Health. These meetings focused on evaluating actions taken and observations made regarding landfill management, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Key proposals submitted by municipal representatives include the rapid burial and backfilling of waste, ensuring that landfills are covered with a thick and sufficient layer to reduce environmental hazards. A working group has been formed to oversee the implementation of this strategy and address any obstacles to its success.

On Tuesday, the Technical Committee, chaired by Engineer Munira Al-Amir, will resume discussions on proposed amendments to Schedule No. 2, which outlines requirements and specifications for investment housing buildings both inside and outside Kuwait City.

On Wednesday, the Capital Committee, headed by Dr. Hassan Kamal, will meet to consider several items on its agenda, including a request from the Ministry of Social Affairs to construct a walkway connecting the central market and vegetable branch buildings of the Qadisiya Cooperative Society.
