To highlight the effective role and to stimulate the creativity and artistic production of Gulf and Arab female artists residing in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the founder and director of Hunna Art Gallery, Océane Sailly, held this Thursday, 24 October, 2024, a special art exhibition by the Bahraini artist, Mashael Alsaie that was entitled as “Gentle Porosities”.
The exhibition was held in collaboration with the International Diplomatic Club – Kuwait (IDCK), and in the presence of the Ambassadors of Bahrain, Egypt and Palestine, along with Mrs. Ghada Shawky, wife of the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the President of the IDCK’s executive board, and a number of the Ambassadors’ spouses.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, the Ambassador from the Kingdom of Bahrain, Salah Al-Maliki, stated “I was pleased to participate in the ‘Gentle Porosities’ exhibition by Bahraini artist, Mashael Alsaie, which included several artistic images with a different nature, in which artistic touches were used to reflect a unique model of its kind.”
The Ambassador further stated that “perhaps what impressed me was the focus on a historical region that has a great importance not only for the people of Bahrain, but also for the Gulf region, which is the historic Ein Athari, whose name has been linked to the name of Bahrain since ancient times. I wish the artist good luck and success in her innovative way of depicting vital sites.”
Al-Maliki categorically expressed his gratitude saying, “I also cannot fail to thank Mrs. Rima Al Khalidi, wife of the Ambassador of the State of Palestine, and IDCK’s executive board Vice President, for her efforts to make this event a success and to everyone who contributed in achieving its goals.”
On the other hand, Mrs. Sailly founder and director of Hunna Art Gallery stated, “The opening of Hunna Art’s first space in Kuwait is a major milestone for the gallery. It will be a space dedicated to presenting the works and research of the new generation of women artists connected to the Arabian Peninsula.”
Mrs. Sailly also said that “our inaugural exhibition, ‘Gentle Porosities’ by Mashael Alsaie embodies the essence of the gallery we are aiming to cultivate a space for critical engagement and artistic experimentation, by focusing on solo exhibitions that are fostering innovative artistic practices that resonate within local and global cultural dialogues.”
Summarizing about the significance of this exhibition, Mrs. Sailly mentioned that “the success of this first exhibition has confirmed that Kuwait was the right choice for this new chapter, and we are hoping to contribute to the local art scene and cultural landscape for many years to come“.
Whereas, the artist Mashael Alsaie, on her part expressed, “My work is a practice of renegotiation and emulation of native inherited mythologies and memories of the land. The ‘Gentle Porosities’ exhibition and making the work within it, is an unraveling of those considerations of land, ecology, and the body”.
