Marine rescuers are a symbol of courage and dedication to protect lives

Brigadier Bader Al-Kaddam, Director of the Fire and Marine Rescue Department at Kuwait’s General Fire Force, said the marine rescue personnel work with dedication and operate around the clock to protect lives at sea-goers.
Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) today, he highlighted the immense risks faced by these teams as they work in volatile maritime conditions requiring constant vigilance, specialized training, and rapid decision-making.
Brigadier Al-Kaddam noted that since its establishment in 1998, the Marine Rescue Department has undergone significant development, positioning itself as a vital force in responding to maritime accidents and protecting Kuwait’s marine environment.
The department now boasts of advanced equipment, including speedboats and modern rescue gear, allowing teams to carry out missions with high efficiency.
He explained the maritime rescues are among the most challenging emergency operations, demanding high skill and precision. Beyond emergency responses, marine personnel also engage in awareness campaigns, advising beachgoers to swim in safe areas and avoid dangerous conditions.
During the first half of 2025 alone, the department responded to 813 maritime incidents, including breakdowns, fires, and search and rescue missions.
Al-Kaddam emphasized the importance of coordination with other agencies such as the Coast Guard and ambulance services. This is facilitated through a joint operations room that enables real-time communication and rapid task deployment according to the situation.
With the summer season seeing peak beach activity, Brigadier Al-Kaddam called on the public to adhere to safety guidelines and support rescue efforts in ensuring everyone’s safety. He stressed that public awareness and cooperation are essential in reducing maritime accidents.
