Major-General Hossain praises Kuwait’s labor reforms, calls meeting with PAM ‘constructive’
Bangladesh and Kuwait strengthen strategic partnership through labor cooperation; 300,000 workers contribute to Kuwait’s growth; confiscating passports and withholding contracts violate the law – Bangladesh envoy

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Kuwait, Major General Syed Tariq Hossain, expressed deep appreciation for the cooperation between Bangladesh and Kuwait in regulating labor affairs, describing relations between the two peoples as “historic and deeply rooted.”
He recalled that Bangladeshi forces stood with Kuwait during the Iraqi invasion, and highlighted the ongoing contributions of more than 300,000 Bangladeshi workers to Kuwait’s development and construction.
Following his visit to the Public Authority for Manpower, Ambassador Hossain praised Kuwait’s recent measures to improve the work environment, including easing recruitment procedures, opening visas for workers from GCC countries, and facilitating family reunification, reports Al-Rai daily.
He described his meeting with PAM officials as “positive and constructive,” stressing that protecting workers’ rights will further strengthen bilateral relations.
The ambassador also pointed to challenges that still need to be addressed, including companies delaying wage payments, withholding employment contracts, and confiscating workers’ passports — practices he said contradict Kuwaiti and international law.
“The worker has the right to keep his passport and a copy of his contract. Implementing this ensures transparency and protects rights,” he said, adding that the embassy is in constant coordination with Kuwaiti authorities to resolve complaints.
He urged continued efforts to simplify recruitment procedures across sectors, noting that this would support Kuwait’s economy and reinforce its status as a leading destination for labor.
