The Central Administration of Statistics said on Tuesday that the quantities of local fish sold during the second quarter of this year amounted to 250 tons, with a total value of about 631 thousand dinars (about two million US dollars) at wholesale prices.
The statistics added in its quarterly bulletin that the average kilogram in the second quarter was 2.52 dinars. The total quantities of local fish last April amounted to 93 tons, and their value, according to wholesale prices in the month, amounted to 232.7 thousand dinars (about 767 thousand dollars), while the total quantities since last May amounted to 90.9 tons, with a value of 237.9 thousand dinars (about 785 thousand dollars).
The quantities of local fish sold last June amounted to 65 tons, worth 160 thousand dinars (about 528 thousand dollars). The administration’s statistics include 25 different types of fish, including shrimp, sea bream, ‘sheem’, ‘nuwaibi’, ‘nagrour’, sea bass, and grouper among others, as reported by Al Qabas.
It is noteworthy that the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources sets fishing schedules for certain types of fish to respect their gestation period and turn them into sustainable wealth for the country.
