Liquor smuggling attempt foiled; two in police custody

Main suspect operated from outside country

A coordinated effort between the General Department of Narcotics Control and the General Administration of Customs led to the arrest of two bootleggers who attempted to smuggle foreign alcohol into the country.

According to security sources, the customs officers grew suspicious of a shipping container arriving at Shuaiba Port from an unidentified Gulf country.

Though it was listed as empty, a detailed inspection uncovered hidden compartments in the container’s floor where packaged liquor bottles were professionally concealed.

Following the discovery, customs officials coordinated with the General Department of Narcotics Control, which initiated a field investigation. Under tight surveillance, the container was allowed to proceed to its intended destination — a warehouse in the Ahmadi area.

There, officers executed a well-planned ambush, leading to the arrest of two Indians as they prepared to receive the container.

Initial interrogations revealed that the pair were acting upon instructions on an unidentified person residing in India, who had instructed them to sell the alcohol inside Kuwait.

Investigations are ongoing to identify more accomplices and networks linked to the case.
