Lebanese authorities, in coordination with Saudi Arabia’s Directorate-General of Narcotics Control, have thwarted an attempt to smuggle 5 million Captagon pills expertly concealed in a transit truck arriving from Syria.
In a statement, the Lebanese Customs Directorate confirmed that the operation was carried out through joint efforts between the Directorate-General of Customs, the Anti-Narcotics Division in Lebanon, and the Saudi Ministry of Interior. Saudi officials had tipped off their Lebanese counterparts about a suspicious shipment en route from Syria.
The statement explained that the truck was closely monitored, its location tracked, and it was intercepted at the right moment. The authorities discovered 866 kilograms of Captagon pills hidden inside glass and porcelain tableware.
One person has been arrested, and investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspects involved in the smuggling attempt.
