Lebanese Embassy holds pink awareness event ‘With Strength and Awareness, We Stand Together’

This day is one of hope and awareness. Early detection saves lives and caring for physical and mental health is an expression of love and compassion – Mona El Khoury

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Lebanese Embassy in Kuwait organized a women’s sports event at its headquarters in Daiya, under the theme “With Strength and Awareness, We Stand Together.”

The event featured trainer Rania Khatib and gathered around 75 participants, including Deputy Lebanese Ambassador Consul Mia Al-Adham, members of the Lebanese Women’s Council, and spouses of ambassadors.

In her opening remarks, Mona El Khoury, wife of the Lebanese Ambassador, expressed her delight at hosting the event, emphasizing that it marks the beginning of a series of initiatives aimed at uniting the Lebanese community and addressing shared social and health concerns.

“This day is one of hope and awareness,” El Khoury said, “affirming that early detection saves lives, and that caring for physical and mental health is an expression of love and compassion.”

She stressed the importance of solidarity with women battling breast cancer and noted that the embassy serves as a home for all Lebanese in Kuwait, welcoming Kuwaiti brothers and friends of all nationalities. El Khoury also announced the upcoming launch of a WhatsApp channel to keep community members informed about embassy news and events.

Basma Bou Hamdan, President of the Lebanese Women’s Council, said the event was organized in recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, explaining that sports were chosen as the theme due to their vital role in promoting health and preventing diseases, including breast cancer.

Meanwhile, trainer Rania Khatib highlighted that one in eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer, stressing the importance of awareness and early screening, which has helped reduce mortality rates by 40 percent since the 1990s.

The event concluded with an interactive fitness session led by Khatib, followed by the lighting of the embassy in pink and a candlelight vigil honoring survivors and those who lost their battle to the disease — a gesture symbolizing courage, unity, and hope.
