Kuwait’s national football team drew 1-1 with Jordan in their match on Tuesday evening at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium, during the sixth round of Group Two in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
In other Group Two matches, Iraq defeated Oman 1-0 in Muscat, while Palestine held South Korea to a 1-1 draw.
With these results, South Korea remained at the top of Group Two with 14 points, followed by Iraq in second place with 11 points. Jordan dropped to third place with 8 points, while Oman slipped to fourth with 6 points. Kuwait’s national team, known as the Blue team, is in fifth place with 4 points, and Palestine remains at the bottom with 3 points.
The Blues played with a formation consisting of Khaled Al-Rashidi in goal, with Fahad Al-Hajri, Khaled Ibrahim, Hassan Hamdan, and Meshari Ghannam forming the defensive line.
In midfield, Sultan Al-Enezi, Ahmed Al-Dhafiri, and Mohammed Daham controlled the center of the field, while Yousef Majed, Yousef Nasser, and Eid Al-Rashidi led the attack.
The first half of the match was average, with the Blues starting strong. In the opening five minutes, a cross pass flew in front of Yousef Nasser, who was just a few steps away from the goal but couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity.
The two teams exchanged attacks, but it was the Jordanian team that took the lead in the 21st minute. Yazan Al-Naimat scored with a powerful shot to the left of goalkeeper Khaled Al-Rashidi. The Blues quickly responded with a similar attempt, as Mohammed Daham fired a shot that narrowly missed, sailing just over the crossbar of Yazeed Abu Laila’s goal.
The Argentine coach of the Kuwaiti national team, Pizzi, made a substitution, bringing on Salman Al-Awadhi in place of Yousef Nasser, also known as Al-Mujhad.
Early in the second half, Eid Al-Rashidi wasted a golden opportunity when he passed the ball just wide of the right post of goalkeeper Yazeed Abu Laila. However, Abu Laila was soon forced off due to injury and was replaced by goalkeeper Abdullah Al-Fakhouri.
The Blues dominated the game in the second half, with the Jordanian team opting to rely on counterattacks after all their players retreated to the middle of the field.
Mohammad Daham capitalized on the Kuwaiti team’s advantage by scoring a stunning thunderous shot in the 67th minute, which found its way into the net past goalkeeper Abdullah Al-Fakhouri. However, Daham, who was in a clear position, squandered a golden opportunity shortly after when his weak shot was saved by Al-Fakhouri’s hand.
In the remaining minutes, both teams exchanged attacks, each hoping to score the decisive goal. However, despite their efforts, neither side was able to break the deadlock. The match concluded with a 1-1 draw.
