
Government data released today showed that Kuwait’s crude oil exports to Japan fell by 1 percent in July compared to a year earlier, totaling 4.93 million barrels, or an average of 159,000 barrels per day. This marks the fourth consecutive monthly drop.
According to a preliminary report from Japan’s Natural Resources and Energy Agency, Kuwait ranked fourth among Japan’s crude suppliers, holding a 7.8 percent share of total imports, slightly down from 7.9 percent in July 2024.
Japan’s overall crude oil imports fell by 0.3 percent year-on-year to 2.03 million barrels per day, recording a second monthly decline. Imports from the Middle East accounted for 87.6 percent of the total, a 10 percent decrease from last year.
The UAE remained Japan’s largest supplier despite a 12.8 percent drop to 872,000 barrels per day, followed by Saudi Arabia with 702,000 barrels per day, down 3.5 percent. The United States came in third with 191,000 barrels per day, while Qatar ranked fifth with 47,000 barrels per day.
Japan is the world’s third-largest oil consumer after China and the United States.
