The Ministry of Health announced today that Kuwait’s National Polio Laboratory, under the Public Health Laboratories Department, has achieved a perfect 100% score in the International Technical Proficiency Assessment Test (ITPAT) conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Dr. Fahd Al-Ghamlas, Director of Public Health, highlighted in a press statement that the ITPAT is one of the most critical global benchmarks for evaluating the accuracy and efficiency of reference laboratories in detecting poliovirus through PCR technology, reports Al-Rai daily.
He emphasized that this outstanding result reflects the laboratory’s consistent adherence to international quality and safety standards, and its vital role within the WHO’s global network for monitoring polio cases and verifying virus-free status in countries.
Dr. Al-Ghamlas noted that the laboratory’s repeated perfect scores underscore the Ministry’s long-term commitment to excellence in public health and laboratory practices.
Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Sarah Al-Qabandi, Head of the Public Health Laboratories Department, praised the lab’s performance, citing its skilled personnel and advanced equipment as key to its high-level achievements and continued success in supporting polio eradication efforts nationally and regionally.
