Kuwait’s National Library celebrates British Council’s platinum jubilee

Kuwait National Library (NLK) hosted on Tuesday the British Council’s Platinum Jubilee Exhibition, displaying rare photos and publications documenting the Council’s role in the educational field in Kuwait.
Researcher in Kuwaiti-British relations and exhibition organizer Essa Dashti told KUNA that the exhibition was inaugurated by British Ambassador to Kuwait, Belinda Lewis.
Dashti said that the exhibition included a rare collection of photos documenting the launch of the British Council’s work in Kuwait in 1955, in addition to important publications used in Kuwaiti schools to teach English.
The exhibition, which will continue for a week, coincided with the 250th anniversary of historical relations between Kuwait and the United Kingdom.
Photos of several high-level visits were displayed for the first time, including the visit of King Charles III, then Prince of Wales, in 1993, when he reopened the British Council following Kuwait’s liberation from the Iraqi invasion, in addition to his historic second visit to Kuwait in 1997.
