In a groundbreaking medical achievement, a surgical team at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital’s Surgery Department and Breast Tumor Unit has successfully carried out Kuwait’s first laparoscopic breast tumor removal procedure. The operation also included breast reconstruction using silicone implants, marking a significant advancement in combining effective cancer treatment with minimal invasiveness and improved aesthetic outcomes.
The pioneering procedure was led by Dr. Dalal Al-Aradi, a consultant surgeon specializing in breast tumors and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Al-Aradi utilized the latest internationally approved surgical techniques, which significantly reduced wound size, minimized post-operative pain and complications, and accelerated the patient’s recovery.
This innovative approach represents a major leap forward in oncological surgery in Kuwait. Unlike traditional methods, laparoscopic surgery offers patients a safer, less invasive alternative that balances medical efficacy with cosmetic precision, resulting in a more comfortable and dignified treatment experience.
Commenting on the milestone, Dr. Sulaiman Al-Mazidi, Head of the Surgery Department, praised the support of Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi and Undersecretary Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, noting that this success aligns with the Ministry’s vision to embrace cutting-edge surgical innovations and improve healthcare services across the country.
Dr. Al-Mazidi added that this achievement opens the door for expanding access to such advanced procedures, ultimately enhancing Kuwait’s ability to provide integrated and patient-centered cancer care in its medical institutions.
