Kuwait’s anti-trafficking committee reviews strategy, reinforces coordination among agencies

The Permanent National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons and Migrant Smuggling met on Monday to review developments and reinforce efforts to combat human trafficking in Kuwait.
The session brought together representatives from several government institutions to assess the implementation of the country’s national strategy and enhance inter-agency coordination.
The meeting, held at the Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies, was chaired by Tariq Al-Asfour, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice and Vice Chairman of the Committee.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Health, and Information, as well as from the Public Prosecution and the Public Authority for Manpower.
The Ministry of Justice statement said the meeting addressed key topics related to ongoing national efforts to combat human trafficking. Discussions focused on the collaborative actions taken by relevant authorities and reviewed new developments and recommendations tied to enhancing the strategy’s effectiveness.
One of the central themes of the meeting was improving coordination among the committee’s member agencies to ensure the comprehensive implementation of the national anti-trafficking plan.
The committee emphasized the need for continued communication and joint operational frameworks to respond effectively to trafficking cases and migrant smuggling.
The session also highlighted the importance of building institutional capacity, raising public awareness, and ensuring the protection and rehabilitation of victims of trafficking. Committee members agreed on the significance of maintaining momentum in enforcement and prevention efforts amid evolving regional and international challenges.
The committee reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to international standards in combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling and to strengthening the rule of law through collective national action.
