Kuwaitis, expats ring up 13.3 million international calls in 2022

The top 10 countries for international call minutes were Saudi Arabia (33%), Qatar (13%), the United States (12%), Kiribati (12%), São Tomé and Príncipe (6%), and India (5%).

In 2022, Kuwaitis and expatriates collectively made a staggering 13.3 million international calls, accounting for a cumulative duration of 42.2 million minutes, as reported by the latest official data from the Central Statistical Administration (CSA).

The number of international calls surged by 47% in 2022, reaching 13.3 million calls compared to 8.99 million calls in 2021. Additionally, the total number of minutes increased by 24.3%, rising to 42.2 million minutes from 33.956 million minutes in 2021.

The top 10 countries that received the highest number of international call minutes included Saudi Arabia (33%), Qatar (13%), the United States (12%), Kiribati (12%), São Tomé and Príncipe (6%), and India (5%).

The data also indicates that there are approximately 17 mobile phone lines per 100 people in Kuwait. By the end of 2022, there were 3.985 million prepaid mobile subscriptions and 1.596 million postpaid subscriptions, totaling 5.58 million subscribers. Additionally, there were 2.144 million mobile broadband subscribers, bringing the total number of mobile and router subscribers in Kuwait to 7.7 million.

There were a total of 62,560 fixed broadband subscriptions, with 13,680 allocated to businesses and 48,880 to individuals. Additionally, there were 19,150 subscriptions for digital subscriber lines (DSL).

Mobile phone penetration rate

Kuwait has approximately 116.5 mobile phone subscriptions per 100 people. Among these, 33% are postpaid subscriptions, while 83% are prepaid, data shows.

Internet penetration rate

The data indicates that there are approximately 45 mobile broadband subscriptions for every 100 people in Kuwait. Additionally, there are 161 internet subscriptions per 100 people through mobile phone companies.
