‘Kuwaiti-Saudi Joint Committee’ discusses reports on petroleum operations in divided zones

The Kuwaiti-Saudi Permanent Joint Committee held its 117th meeting today, Wednesday, 15th January, at the Khafji Joint Operations Headquarters in Saudi Arabia.

The meeting was chaired by Saudi Assistant Minister of Energy, Mohammed Al-Ibrahim, and attended by the Kuwaiti side’s head, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil, Sheikh Dr. Nimer Fahd Al-Malik Al-Sabah.

The Ministry of Oil stated in a press release that during the meeting, reports on petroleum operations in the onshore and adjacent submerged divided zones were reviewed. The discussion included strategic plans, ongoing and upcoming major projects, as well as any obstacles hindering the implementation of these plans.

Moreover, the Ministry also noted that the meeting reviewed the report on the progress of the Permanent Joint Committee Office’s work. Additionally, the plans prepared for emergency situations were discussed, along with the procedures followed during the current period. These efforts have contributed to optimizing available resources, with continuous development and evaluation to achieve the best results.

The Ministry highlighted that the meeting also reviewed the efforts of the members of the operational committee, focusing on achieving the goals of joint operations and formulating a unified action plan that aligns with the strategic interests of both countries.

According to the statement, the Ministry of Oil praised the efforts of the human resources from both the Kuwaiti and Saudi sides. It also expressed appreciation for the ongoing and dedicated efforts of the leaders on both sides in the joint Khafji and Wafra operations, which have had a significant impact on the successful implementation of operational plans.

The statement quoted Sheikh Dr. Nimer Al-Sabah emphasizing the importance of continuing the committee’s meetings to address key topics such as environmental and safety projects, development plans, training of national workers, and the integration of modern, advanced technologies in petroleum operations. He also highlighted the need to review the progress report of the committee’s permanent office, examine the plans for emergency situations, evaluate the procedures followed during the current period, and contribute to optimizing available resources, as well as the continuous development and evaluation of these efforts to achieve the best results.

Sheikh Nimer Al-Sabah expressed his gratitude to the Saudi Assistant Minister of Energy for the positive and brotherly spirit observed during the meeting. He looked forward to achieving the shared goals of both countries in petroleum projects through enhanced coordination between the Kuwaiti Ministry of Oil and the Saudi Ministry of Energy.

Furthermore, Sheikh Nimer Al-Sabah highlighted the importance of the facilities provided and the tangible cooperation between the two sides, emphasizing their role in facilitating petroleum projects related to the divided and submerged zone.

Sheikh Nimer Al-Sabah also stressed that this cooperation ensures the smooth operation of petroleum activities in the joint operations of Wafra and Khafji, as well as the safety of workers in the operating companies, including Aramco Gulf Operations Company, Saudi Arabian Chevron Company, and the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company.
