Kuwaiti man arrested in Hawally for drunk driving and assaulting police

A 40-year-old Kuwaiti citizen was arrested and detained at the Hawally Police Station for driving under the influence of alcohol, insulting a public employee, and assaulting law enforcement officers during the arrest.
According to the case report, the man was ordered to pull over for reckless driving but the driver initially refused to comply. When he eventually forced to stop, he became restless and verbally abused the officers, reports Al-Anba daily.
He also refused to step out of the vehicle and showed signs of being in an abnormal state, including slurred speech and the smell of alcohol while he was talking.
When the man was forced out of the car, he resisted, pushing and hitting the officers. One of the policemen sustained injuries during the scuffle.
Authorities referred the man to the Forensic Evidence Department to ascertain he was drunk and under the influence of drugs.
The man has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol which carries a fine between 1,000 and 2,000 dinars; jail of 1 or 2 years; causing property damage and is liable to pay a fine of between 2,000 and 3,000 dinars and a fine of between 18 to 24 months; causing injury or death which carries a penalty of between 2,000 and 5,000 dinars and a jail term of two to three years.
The law aims to deter reckless behavior and enhance public safety on Kuwait’s roads.
