Kuwaiti gets 4 years for insulting Emirate’s leadership on social media

The Court of Cassation has upheld a ruling issued by the Court of Appeal sentencing a Kuwaiti citizen to four years in prison for publicly insulting the Emirate’s leadership through posts on the social media platform “X” (formerly Twitter).
Following the incident, the accused was arrested by the State Security, which investigated his online activity and charged him with publishing offensive content targeting the Emirate’s leadership.
During the investigation, the accused admitted to the charges, stating that he “was not in his right mind when [he] wrote the tweets.”
The verdict of the Court of Cassation is final and cannot be appealed.
