Kuwaiti Cabinet: Disrespect to Amir’s authority unacceptable, reflects poor values
The Kuwaiti Cabinet has strongly condemned the recent incidents in the National Assembly session, which it described as disrespectful to the high authority of His Highness the Amir.
In a meeting on Thursday, the Cabinet highlighted that such behavior contradicts the values and principles instilled by the forefathers and does not represent the true nature of the loyal Kuwaiti people.
The Cabinet reviewed a letter submitted by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Al-Sabah to His Highness the Amir, seeking his guidance on the aforementioned incidents that sparked widespread public and official disapproval.
The letter emphasized that the Amir’s high authority is inviolable, as stipulated in Article 54 of the Constitution, which states that “the person of the Amir is sacred and inviolable.” It also highlighted that the Amir’s address to the nation was an extension of the constitutional principles and provisions.
The Cabinet expressed its dismay at the insistence on recording the disrespectful remarks in the Parliament’s minutes, considering it unacceptable and a clear violation of the Amir’s authority.
Despite the government’s sincere efforts to foster cooperation between the executive and legislative branches, the Cabinet stressed that such behavior undermines the values of the Kuwaiti society.
The Cabinet, in accordance with Article 107 of the Constitution, approved a draft decree to dissolve the National Assembly and submitted it to His Highness the Amir for his final decision.
