Kuwait upholds parental rights with full support, int’l commitment

Acting Assistant Undersecretary for the Social Welfare Sector at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Dr. Jassim Al-Kandari, said the State of Kuwait stands out among countries for its commitment to implementing international laws and conventions that protect the rights of parents and support families.

This commitment, he said, is reflected in the state’s comprehensive welfare and development legislation, which ensures material and moral assistance for families, especially those in need and belonging to vulnerable or special groups, according to Al-Rai daily.

Al-Kandari made these remarks during a ceremony organized by the Ibrahim Taher Al-Baghli Foundation for the Pious Son, held in celebration of the International Day of Parents 2025, under the patronage of the Ministry of Social Affairs.

He emphasized that Kuwait prioritizes strengthening the family unit by supporting initiatives that empower parents and provide them with a dignified standard of living. Al-Kandari praised the Foundation’s active role, describing it as a model of civil society engagement aligned with the Ministry’s goals of promoting social and humanitarian values focused on parental care, service, and rehabilitation.

Al-Kandari also noted that Kuwait is actively implementing the United Nations’ theme for the 2025 Global Day of Parents, “Parenting.” This theme highlights the importance of recognizing parental roles and ensuring their rights. He stressed Kuwait’s efforts to develop educational programs and services aimed at supporting parents with practical tools, guidance, and knowledge to help them better fulfill their caregiving responsibilities.

He added that Kuwait is enhancing its parenting support ecosystem by preparing more research, studies, and statistical analyses that address the challenges faced by parents. These steps are part of Kuwait’s broader efforts to meet its international obligations, including those outlined in the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Family Members.

Representing the charity’s chairman, Ibrahim Al-Baghli, the Vice President of the Social Committee at Hawra Al-Baghli Charity delivered a speech emphasizing the significance of World Parents’ Day as one of the Foundation’s key initiatives. The celebration honored the fathers and mothers of students who won the Al-Baghli Award for the Pious Son, a competition held in cooperation with Kuwait’s Ministry of Education for the 2024/2025 academic year.

This annual event continues to underscore Kuwait’s deep respect for the pivotal role of parents in shaping society and highlights the country’s efforts to celebrate and support family values at both the national and international levels.
