Kuwait updates of 20% of its laws under legislative modernization drive
To date 201 laws have been updated, while 49 laws remain and are scheduled to be completed over the next 11 months

The Ministry of Justice has announced that it has revised and updated of 20 percent of all laws currently in force in Kuwait, out of a total of 983 existing laws, as part of a comprehensive national effort to modernize the country’s legislative framework.
The ministry explained that the initiative falls under the national plan to modernize the legislative system, which aims to update 250 laws by December 2026 to ensure legal texts remain aligned with constitutional principles, judicial practice, and contemporary developments, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to the ministry, 80 percent of the targeted work has already been accomplished, with 201 laws updated to date, while 49 laws remain and are scheduled to be completed over the next 11 months.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry of Justice highlighted the collective efforts of its key partners in implementing the plan. These include the judiciary, members of the Public Prosecution, the Fatwa and Legislation Department, Kuwait University, the Kuwait Lawyers Association, relevant state agencies, and civil society organizations.
The ministry stressed that this broad institutional cooperation has been essential to accelerating the review process, enhancing legal clarity, and strengthening the effectiveness of Kuwait’s legislative environment in line with national development goals.
