Kuwait, UN discuss strengthening cooperation on gender equality and human rights

On the sidelines of the 18th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, held at the United Nations Headquarters, Kuwaiti representative Jawaher Al-Duaij met with UN Women Executive Director Sima Sami Bahous to explore ways to deepen joint cooperation in the fields of human rights and women’s empowerment.

The meeting underscored, according to Al-Rai daily, the shared commitment of both parties to advancing the rights of women, particularly their inclusion in peacebuilding processes, humanitarian aid distribution, and negotiations.

They also emphasized the importance of ensuring that women with disabilities are included in these efforts, highlighting the intersectionality of gender and disability rights.

Al-Duaij reaffirmed Kuwait’s firm commitment to international efforts that promote gender equality and support women’s rights, noting that Kuwait continues to align its policies with global human rights standards.

For her part, Bahous praised Kuwait’s recent legislative and institutional advancements in the field of women’s empowerment, calling the country a regional leader in championing women’s rights. She also highlighted Kuwait’s progress as a model for other states in the Gulf and wider Arab region

The meeting reflects Kuwait’s growing engagement with international bodies in promoting inclusive development and gender-responsive policies.
