Kuwait TV’s Mohammed Dughaim elected chairman of ASBU Sports Committee

The Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) announced on Monday the election of Mohammed Dughaim, Operations Supervisor at Kuwait Television’s Channel 3, as Chairman of the Union’s Standing Committee for Sports.

In a statement, ASBU said the election took place during the committee’s 27th meeting, held in the Tunisian capital, Tunis. The meeting also resulted in the election of Ahmed Munadi, Director of the Sports Channel at the Iraqi Media Network, as First Vice-Chairman of the committee.

The statement noted that the committee reviewed the outcomes of sports exchange activities over the past year, during which the General Directorate secured television coverage for a wide range of sporting events at both Arab and international levels.

These events, provided by member organizations, included team and individual sports, as well as official and friendly matches, tournaments, and various competitive and exhibition activities.

ASBU added that the exchange program was marked by its frequency and diversity, extending beyond official competitions to include recreational sports such as water and beach sports, including swimming, diving, beach volleyball and beach soccer.

The committee was also briefed on the latest developments concerning the International Olympic Committee’s offer of television broadcasting rights for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan and the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

According to the statement, the IOC expressed its interest in resuming cooperation with ASBU, describing it as a long-standing partner for more than four decades.

In addition, the committee reviewed ASBU’s participation, through its sports office, in the Monaco Sports Meetings exhibition.

The event, which ASBU has attended regularly for many years, provided valuable insights into developments in the global sports broadcasting rights market and opened opportunities to diversify experience and explore alternative markets beyond football and other traditional sports.
