Kuwait will host the 31st meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Electricity and Water Cooperation Committee tomorrow (Monday, Sept 28), bringing together high-level delegations from across the region to discuss key developments and future strategies in energy and water sectors.

The session will be chaired by Dr. Adel Al-Zamil, Undersecretary of Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, under the umbrella of the GCC General Secretariat.

Engineer Fatima Hayat, the Ministry’s official spokesperson, said the meeting underscores ongoing Gulf efforts to strengthen regional cooperation and integration in electricity and water, focusing on projects that enhance security and sustainability amid rapid population and economic growth, reports Al-Rai daily.

The forum will also serve as a platform to exchange expertise, share experiences, and address current and emerging challenges, particularly in light of global trends toward energy transition and carbon reduction.

Hayat highlighted that Kuwait’s hosting reflects its commitment to regional water and electricity security and aligns with national initiatives to develop public-private partnership projects in electricity, water, and renewable energy. She emphasized the country’s role as a hub for regional dialogue and coordination in these critical sectors.

Key topics on the agenda include updates on Gulf electricity and water interconnection projects, the development of joint infrastructure, expansion plans in renewable energy fields such as solar, wind, and green hydrogen, as well as initiatives to rationalize electricity and water consumption and improve resource efficiency.

The meeting will also explore cooperation with international organizations and partners to advance modern technologies and share technical expertise.

At the conclusion of the session, a joint statement will be issued outlining the main decisions and recommendations agreed upon, reinforcing the GCC countries’ commitment to continued collaboration and integration in electricity and water policies and strategies.
