Kuwait to host “Arab Regional Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction” next February

Kuwait will host the “Sixth Arab Regional Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction” next February, which will be chaired by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Interior, H. E. Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef. The event will be held in cooperation with the United Nations Office.
The spokesman for the General Fire Force and Director of the Public Relations and Media Department, Brigadier Mohammad Al-Gharib, told KUNA that the pivotal forum, which will take place from February 9 to 12, will feature the participation of 22 Arab countries. The event will be held under the slogan “Building Arab Societies Capable of Resilience: From Understanding to Action”.
Al-Gharib added that the forum will be held in cooperation with the Regional Office for Arab States, represented by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the League of Arab States.
The forum will feature a diverse group of participants, including representatives from Arab governments, civil society organizations, United Nations agencies, international organizations, financial institutions, media, the private sector, and academic and research institutions.
Al-Gharib stated that the forum is a crucial gathering aimed at enhancing knowledge of disaster risks, strengthening governance, and encouraging investments in resilience within the Arab region. The forum will focus on improving preparedness and recovery efforts to build a safer future for all countries in the region.
The main objectives of the forum are to assess the tangible progress in implementing the Sendai Framework and the Arab Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction 2030, reaffirm political commitments, and identify regional priorities for the next two years.
Al-Gharib said that the forum will also discuss the exchange of knowledge and experiences among participating countries, with the goal of developing comprehensive solutions and adopting an approach based on disaster risk management.
Importantly, the forum also aims to strengthen Arab capacities to withstand disasters and reduce their risks across the Arab world. It will adopt a disaster risk reduction strategy developed in the name of the State of Kuwait, which will be implemented over the next three years by all Arab countries.
