Kuwait to float tender for Dabdaba, Shagaya renewable energy projects mid-June

In a major step toward accelerating renewable energy development, Kuwait’s Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority is preparing to float tender documents for two significant projects — the Dabdaba Power Generation Project and Phase III (Project One) of the Shagaya Renewable Energy Project.

Together, these projects will add 1,100 megawatts of solar power to the national grid. The tendering process is scheduled to open in mid-June and will be limited to companies that have already been pre-qualified.

According to Al-Rai daily, the Higher Committee for Partnership Projects has confirmed the timeline for issuing the tender documents. Both the Authority and the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy are reportedly eager to expedite the bidding and award phases of these vital infrastructure projects, which are central to Kuwait’s renewable energy roadmap.
The sources noted that this project marks Kuwait’s first large-scale solar power initiative utilizing photovoltaic technology.

The capacity of 1,100 megawatts represents a significant boost to the country’s energy diversification efforts. The Partnership Projects Authority had previously announced on August 18 the list of qualified companies and consortiums eligible to participate in the bidding process.

This initiative reflects the Kuwaiti government’s broader strategy to invigorate the public-private partnership model and enhance private sector participation in national development. It also aligns with Kuwait’s long-term goals to adopt cleaner energy solutions and reduce reliance on traditional fossil fuels.
