Kuwait targets trans fats with new regulation for food facilities
The authority urged all companies and food suppliers to comply with the regulations to ensure the provision of safe food products free from trans fats that are harmful to health.
• The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition stated that the new regulation is part of ongoing efforts to promote consumer health and safety and to achieve integrated cooperation between government agencies and the private sector for the public good.
The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has mandated that all food facilities, factories, and food product suppliers adhere to the GSO 2483 Trans Fat Regulation, which seeks to eliminate industrial trans–fatty acids, according to Al Rai newspaper.
The authority stated that this decision is part of ongoing efforts to promote consumer health and safety and to achieve integrated cooperation between government agencies and the private sector for the public good.
“This initiative is based on Gulf Technical Regulation 2483 regarding trans fats and product contents, which highlights the potential health risks posed to society from the consumption of artificial trans fats,” it explained.
