Kuwait stresses need for stronger and more effective UN system

His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah arrived in New York to lead the Kuwaiti delegation to the UN General Assembly, renewing global commitment to United Nations reforms and engaging leaders on regional and international issues.

  • His Highness plans to meet leading financial institutions and major U.S. firms partnering with Kuwait to discuss future strategic initiatives aligned with the objectives of Kuwait Vision 2035, aiming to enhance investment and development opportunities within the country.

His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, representing His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, arrived Friday evening at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City, leading the Kuwaiti delegation to participate in the high-level week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, commemorating the UN’s 80th anniversary.

The Crown Prince was welcomed at the airport by Mazen Al-Essa, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs at the Amiri Diwan; Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s Ambassador to the United States; and Ambassador Tariq Al-Bannai, Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

In a press statement upon his arrival, His Highness expressed pride in representing His Highness the Amir at this important session of the United Nations General Assembly, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the organization’s founding and attended by 105 leaders and heads of state and government.

He emphasized that the occasion represents a pivotal moment for renewing the international community’s commitment to reforming the United Nations and improving its working mechanisms, making the organization more effective in addressing multiple global challenges.

His Highness stressed that any anticipated reform must contribute to building a more efficient international system that strengthens peace and security and promotes development for all peoples worldwide.

He noted that the session’s agenda includes several high-level meetings, most notably the discussion on the two-state solution, co-chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of France. His Highness expressed optimism that the meeting would see significant progress, particularly in the recognition of the State of Palestine by several influential countries, marking an important step toward its full membership in the United Nations.

His Highness also highlighted his intention to leverage the presence of global leaders through bilateral meetings to discuss regional and international issues and strengthen bilateral relations.

Additionally, His Highness plans to meet with leading financial institutions and major U.S. companies partnering with Kuwait to discuss future strategic initiatives aligned with the objectives of Kuwait Vision 2035, aiming to enhance investment and development opportunities within the country.
