Kuwait strengthens women’s leadership across sectors under Amir’s vision
Women, peace and security agenda gains momentum as Kuwait expands female participation

Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Duaij Al-Sabah affirmed that the State of Kuwait remains committed to enhancing the role of women across all sectors, with the support and guidance of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Sunday following a coordination meeting of the National Committee for the Implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, she explained that the meeting was chaired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by the Human Rights Affairs Department, and brought together representatives from the ministries of Justice, Interior, Defense and Information, in addition to the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, the Supreme Council for Planning and Development, the Public Prosecution, the Public Authority for Youth, and the Public Authority for Sports.
She noted that over the past two years the committee has observed growing female participation across various fields, including increased acceptance of women in the military sector, a steady rise in female recruits within the police force, and expanding appointments of women to leadership positions.
The committee reviewed its achievements during 2025 with the aim of developing work mechanisms and strengthening coordination among member entities, while also discussing future directions and updating the national strategy in line with the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325, alongside identifying priorities for the current year.
Discussions also focused on developing policies to enhance women’s leadership in sports and reinforcing their pioneering role in this sector. In addition, members examined proposals from international organizations to organize workshops and training programs aimed at raising awareness and empowering women in alignment with Kuwait Vision 2035 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The committee highlighted the importance of celebrating international occasions dedicated to women, including events organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences marking International Women in Science and Technology Day, as well as the upcoming Women Judges’ Day celebration hosted by the Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies to support women’s empowerment within the judiciary.
Kuwait, she stressed, places particular importance on implementing Security Council Resolution 1325, which promotes women’s full and equal participation in peace and security efforts and strengthens their role in conflict prevention, resolution, and peacebuilding.
