Kuwait strengthens emergency preparedness amid rising regional tensions

In response to ongoing regional instability, Kuwait has intensified its precautionary measures to safeguard national security and public welfare.

The Council of Ministers, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah, convened to assess the readiness of ministries and government bodies to respond effectively to any developments, according to news agencies.

The Cabinet expressed confidence in the preparedness of all state institutions, emphasizing the need to secure essential services, ensure availability of supplies, and support the uninterrupted delivery of services to both citizens and residents. The ministers reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining the country’s security and stability.

The Council reviewed a detailed report from the Ministry of Health confirming the adequacy of Kuwait’s pharmaceutical stockpile.

The report highlighted the readiness of hospitals and health centers to continue operating with sufficient medical supplies and equipment over extended periods.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry submitted a parallel report detailing the country’s food security measures.

It confirmed the strength of strategic food stocks, particularly basic commodities and bottled drinking water, and highlighted continuous market monitoring to track supply levels and consumer trends in cooperative societies and supermarkets.

As a precautionary measure, Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya announced the activation of an emergency plan to evacuate Kuwaiti nationals currently in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Yahya said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under the guidance of the political leadership, is closely monitoring the situation through the Kuwaiti Embassy in Tehran.

Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs, Ambassador Samih Hayat, stated that a plan is in place to evacuate more than 1,000 Kuwaitis from Iran as quickly and safely as possible.
