Kuwait steps up fight against illegal crypto mining amid power grid strain

The Criminal Security Sector of the Ministry of Interior in coordination with the Public Authority for Industry and the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, carried out a joint security campaign in residential areas to ‘flush out’ unauthorized cryptocurrency mining activities.
The operation resulted in identifying several homes violating national laws and regulations through unlicensed use of high-energy mining equipment and seizing multiple cryptocurrency mining devices and referring the violators to the judicial authorities, according to Al-Rai.
In a statement, the Ministry of Interior emphasized that the campaign is part of a broader national effort to combat illegal practices that strain Kuwait’s electricity infrastructure.
Unauthorized mining operations have led to significant rise in power consumption across the nation, overloading the power grid, and raising the risk of outages in residential, commercial, and critical service areas, posing a serious threat to public safety.
