Kuwait sets world record with five consecutive remote robotic surgeries

Kuwaiti doctors have gained international recognition for their medical achievements, with several notable accomplishments over the years.

In a groundbreaking event this month, the Ministry of Health performed five consecutive remote robotic surgeries on patients with kidney and prostate cancer using telerobotic surgery technology, marking a world record for the largest number of consecutive remote surgeries in a short period, according to Al-Rai daily.

The surgeries involved direct participation from medical professionals outside Kuwait, covering a distance of over 7,000 kilometers.

Additionally, in September 2024, Kuwait achieved the success of its first kidney transplant exchange between families as part of the National Kidney Transplant Exchange Program, aimed at improving transplant services and reducing waiting times.

Earlier, in August 2024, Dr. Abdullah Al Kandari performed a pioneering surgery for glaucoma, advancing precision medicine in the treatment of this dangerous eye condition.

In July 2024, the Vascular Surgery and Catheterization Team at Mubarak Hospital, led by Dr. Abdullah Al-Fawaz, completed the first Middle Eastern operation to repair an aneurysm in the thoracic aortic arch using a custom-modified stent.

Moreover, in December 2023, Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital successfully performed complex lymphedema surgeries for the first time in Kuwait and used a smart mesh for incisional hernia repair in June 2023.

These achievements underscore Kuwait’s ongoing commitment to advancing healthcare and medical innovation on the global stage.
