Kuwait set to sign landmark Al-Zour North Power Plant contract Sunday

The Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) is set to officially sign the contract for the Al-Zour North Power Plant (Phases II and III) with the winning bidder, the ACWA Power consortium, which includes the Gulf Investment Corporation.

The signing ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, will be attended by key government figures including Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, and the Minister of Finance, reports Al-Rai daily.

This critical project, approved by the Audit Bureau and the Higher Committee for Partnership Projects, will produce 2,700 megawatts of electricity alongside 120 million gallons of water on a daily basis.

The construction will begin with a turbine phase lasting approximately 30 months, followed by a combined cycle phase of 40 months.

Notably, the plant aims to operate with emissions below international limits, reflecting Kuwait’s commitment to environmental preservation.

The electricity production is expected to commence by the second quarter of 2028, significantly bolstering the national electricity and water supply to keep pace with increasing demand driven by urban growth and ongoing development projects.
