Kuwait sees major growth with $1.2 billion in January contract awards

MEED magazine reported that contract awards in Kuwait reached approximately $1.2 billion in January, consisting of seven contracts, with $847 million allocated to transportation projects approved by the Public Authority for Housing Welfare. The deals focus on infrastructure development in areas south of Saad Al-Abdullah City in Jahra Governorate, according to Al Anba newspaper.
The magazine explained that two of the deals were awarded to the Chinese company ‘Gezhouba Group,’ with a total value of $557 million, while the third contract was won by the local Kuwaiti Company for Construction of Factories and Contracting, valued at $290 million.
In terms of other awards, two contracts were granted in the energy sector to the Public Authority for Housing Welfare. One contract, worth $105 million, relates to the establishment of the main power generation station in Nawaf Al-Ahmad Residential City with a voltage of 400/132/11 kilovolts, while the second project, valued at $104 million, pertains to the establishment of the main power generation station in South Sabah Al-Ahmad Residential City, also with a voltage of 400/132/11 kilovolts.
MEED reported that Kuwait awarded two contracts to the Ministry of Public Works, totaling $150 million. This includes a $100 million contract to develop Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port (Phase 1), and a $50 million contract for the development of the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port headquarters building for the Ports Authority.

On the Gulf level, the UAE topped the list with project awards amounting to $12.8 billion in January, followed by Saudi Arabia with $2.97 billion in second place, and Kuwait in third place with $1.2 billion.
Qatar ranked fourth with $415 million in awards, while Oman came in fifth with $65 million. Bahrain did not award any contracts in January.
