Kuwait schools gear up for rainy season with rooftop cleaning drive

Engineering departments conducted inspections to ensure school roofs, manholes, and networks are clean, while the educational sector stressed the need to remove all obstacles to water flow.

Kuwait Municipality plans to offer environmental awareness lectures to school students to enhance their understanding of environmental issues, inform them of global ecological risks, explain Kuwaits specific environmental situation, and highlight key ways to maintain a healthy and safe environment.

After completing roof insulation repairs over the summer break, most schools in Kuwait have launched cleaning campaigns targeting rooftops, water drains, and sewage systems in preparation for the rainy season, reports Al Rai newspaper.

While the engineering affairs departments in the educational areas organized inspection tours to assess schools’ compliance with the cleanliness of roofs, manholes, and networks, the educational facilities sector emphasized the importance of removing all obstacles to water flow on roofs and in manholes, such as dust, garbage, and waste, as well as keeping furniture and equipment away from Al-Khareer sites.

On the other hand, Kuwait Municipality plans to offer environmental awareness lectures to school students to enhance their understanding of environmental issues, inform them of global ecological risks, explain Kuwait’s specific environmental situation, and highlight key ways to maintain a healthy and safe environment.

The municipality requested the Ministry of Education to instruct school activity management in all governorates to include the Department of Environmental Affairs’ lectures in their environmental activity schedules, covering all grade levels except kindergartens, and to nominate a liaison officer for each governorate separately.

Maryam Al-Enzi, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Educational Development and Activities, tasked the educational areas with providing a school at each grade level to host the lectures, emphasizing the importance of educating students about the risks to the ecosystem and how to maintain a healthy, safe environment.
