Kuwait saves 11 million dinars by suspending health insurance for government agencies
Ministry of Finance believes halting health insurance contracts in the oil sector can save up to 50 million dinars.

The Ministry of Finance has saved approximately 11 million dinars by suspending health insurance contracts for employees in 11 government agencies, including the Audit Bureau, the Central Bank of Kuwait, and the Public Institution for Social Security.
This move is part of a broader effort to control public spending. The Ministry of Health will provide healthcare services to the affected employees within its facilities, according to Al-Rai daily.
The oil sector, however, is resisting the decision, arguing that its employees are entitled to health insurance under the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation’s founding decree.
The Ministry of Finance believes that halting health insurance contracts in the oil sector could save up to 50 million dinars, citing redundancy with services provided by the Al-Ahmadi Hospital.
The dispute is under legal review by the Fatwa and Legislation Department. The Ministry of Finance has suggested limiting health insurance for oil sector employees to field staff only, excluding office employees and their families.
