Kuwait, Saudi Arabia explore 10 tracks of cooperation in power and water

Tenders for major power and water projects extended; Al-Subiya Phase Four project expected in 2028

Officials from Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy held a virtual meeting with their Saudi counterparts to discuss expanding cooperation in the electricity and water sectors.

The talks, which have been held once every month since June 20, 2024, cover more than 10 tracks, including leveraging Saudi Electricity Company’s expertise in rapid digital transformation.

The Central Agency for Public Tenders approved extending the study period for bids on the Al-Subiya Power Plant (Phase Four) and the Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant (Phase Two) by one month.

Sources said these projects are vital to boosting Kuwait’s production capacity to meet growing electricity and water needs amid urban expansion.

According to officials, if procedures for the Subiya tender are finalized, the plant could be operational by 2028, ahead of the second and third phases of the Al-Zour North Power Plant.

The ministry stressed its commitment to overcoming obstacles to ensure timely completion of production projects.
